recently whatsapp integrated signal protocol end-to-end encryption platforms.
i tried friend , said encryption activated. app closed , background tasks disabled on ios 8, push notifications friend still showed message.
question: whatsapp encrypt apns message? if yes, how display text? there method on ios processing push notifications?

whatsapp using voip background mode along pushkit solving problem.
voip pushes are:
- delivered directly app.
- considered high-priority notifications , delivered without delay.
- delivered if app force-quit user.

once encrypted payload of voip push decrypted show “local notification” decrypted message.
there 1 small issue though, pushkit available on ios 8 , later. so, how whatsapp doing earlier versions of ios? well, isn’t. don’t allow see message preview in notifications on versions earlier ios 8 (verified on ios 7, see screenshot)
